Birkenhead Poem 2: Nathaniel Hawthorne in Rock Ferry

It takes time to
get used to
the rain
and the people.

Argumentative
and republican, not
a theme to endear
you to the locals (except the Irish) .

The villa with,
its castle - like facade,
barracading in
the new from the moribund.

Were you waiting for
a, Scarlett Letter day?
Or a friend to say:
'This is how to stoke the fire'
